15 Days of Riding Like No Other
The Great Trans-Himalayan International Motorcycle Expedition
Meet the Organiser“Nothing is permanent, not even the Himalayas. Step out of your comfort zone and be part of the Great Trans-Himalayan Expedition.”
We ride the Himalayas on two wheels and explore some of the most beautiful, fascinating, breathtaking and challenging roads in the world. Over 15 days we ride Spiti, Zanskar Valley and Leh–Ladakh.
The journey begins in the lower foothills of the Himalayas at Manali and gradually climbs to the world's highest motorable passes, including Umling La (19,024 ft / 5,798 m), the highest road in the world.
Along the way we pass through pine forests, snow-capped mountains, high-altitude deserts and rugged landscapes, experiencing the raw and untamed side of the Himalayas.
To keep the experience real and authentic, we stay in mixed accommodations and travel with our own kitchen crew and camping equipment for a few days. For two nights we camp in remote locations under open skies, where the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye.

Visit one of the wonders of the world on day two, right after the welcome briefing in Delhi.

Ride Khardung La and Umling La, the highest motorable road in the world at 5,798 m (19,024 ft).

Sangla, Spiti and Zanskar: pine forests, river gorges and vast high-altitude desert.

Centuries-old Buddhist monasteries perched above the valleys of Spiti and Ladakh.
Please book your international flights in and out of Delhi, the capital of India. On arrival, our team will pick you up from the airport and drop you at your hotel. Your first night's accommodation in Delhi is at your own cost.
The next day, riders from around the world meet at Shangri-La, Connaught Place, New Delhi for a welcome briefing. We go through the tour details, complete the documentation and answer your questions. After the briefing we visit the Taj Mahal and return to Delhi the same evening, staying at the same hotel.
On the following day we leave for Manali, where the motorcycle ride starts. We travel from New Delhi to Manali overnight in a luxury Volvo coach.
The ride starts in Manali and finishes in Leh. Once the ride ends, you will need to book your own flight from Leh to Delhi. You are welcome to stay on in Leh for a few extra days if you like.
We ride exclusively on Royal Enfield motorcycles, known for their reliability and comfort in the Himalayas. The motorcycles provided are the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 and Himalayan 450.
We ride in small groups of a maximum of 14 like-minded riders, so the experience stays personal, well managed and enjoyable.
We offer a mix of stays including Swiss tents, glamping, cottages, hotels and homestays. For two nights we camp in remote locations with our own kitchen crew under open skies.
We are available to assist you 24×7 on phone and WhatsApp, from the moment you book until the ride is over.
From the pine-scented foothills of Manali, the route crosses into the forest village of Jibhi and on to the Sangla Valley in Kinnaur. From there it climbs to Nako and into the high-altitude desert of Spiti at Kaza, before camping beside Chandratal, the Moon Lake.
We drop down to Sissu, then camp again on the high plains of Sarchu before riding into Leh. From Leh we ride the famous Khardung La, camp by Pangong Lake, and head out to Hanle, home of one of the world's highest observatories, to ride Umling La at 5,798 m, the highest motorable road in the world.
Pine forests, snow-capped mountains, high-altitude deserts, ancient monasteries and some of the highest lakes on earth: every day brings new roads, new challenges and views few travellers ever see.
Rides run in June, July, August and September.

Yes. Umling La sits at 5,798 m (19,024 ft).
This ride climbs from the foothills at Manali to the highest motorable road in the world. The air gets thin, the weather changes fast and the roads range from smooth tarmac to broken gravel and water crossings. That's exactly what makes it the ride of a lifetime.
This is an adventure expedition, not a normal motorcycle holiday. You will ride long days at high altitude on roads that range from good tarmac to rough gravel, broken sections and stream crossings. You should be comfortable riding a motorcycle for several hours a day and be prepared for cold, changing weather.
The route is designed to climb gradually, starting at around 2,000 m in Manali and gaining height over several days through Kinnaur and Spiti before reaching Ladakh. Our first aid kit carries general medicines and an oxygen cylinder. Please speak to your doctor before the trip, especially if you have any medical condition, and tell us about it when you book.
We ride exclusively on Royal Enfield motorcycles: the Himalayan 411 and the Himalayan 450. Both are built for these mountains and are known for their reliability and comfort.
You don't need to be an enduro rider, but you should be a confident motorcyclist. Some sections are rough, loose or wet, so basic off-road control and a calm approach help a lot.
Fly in to Delhi. The ride finishes in Leh, so you will need to book a flight from Leh to Delhi for your journey home. Many riders stay on in Leh for a few extra days.
You won't be riding alone. A mechanic, spare parts and a support vehicle travel with the group, along with a lead rider and a tail rider.
Our team will assist you and assess the situation. Depending on the circumstances, you can travel in the support vehicle while the team looks after your motorcycle.
A mix of hotels, Swiss tents, a cottage and homestays. On two nights we camp in remote locations with our own kitchen crew, where on a clear night the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, along with tea, coffee and snacks. Please tell us about any dietary requirements when you book; ingredients can be limited in remote areas.
Not every day. Expect long stretches without mobile network or internet in Spiti, Changthang and other remote areas.
Some areas on the route require Inner Line Permits. We arrange all of these for you and they are included in the price. We will ask for your passport and visa details in advance.
A maximum of 14 riders, so the expedition stays personal and well managed.
Yes. You need a valid motorcycle licence and an International Driving Permit (or the equivalent required for your country of residence).
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance covering motorcycle riding, high altitude, medical treatment and emergency evacuation is strongly recommended. Please check the altitude limits in your policy carefully.
Good riding gear is essential: a proper helmet, riding jacket and pants, boots, gloves, waterproof layers, warm clothing for the high passes, sunglasses, sunscreen, personal medication and basic personal items. We will send you a detailed packing list before the expedition.
We ride in June, July, August and September, when the high passes are open. Mountain weather can still change quickly, so be prepared for anything from sunshine to snow.
Because every tour is personally led by Ajay, who has ridden more than 350,000 km across India. We keep it raw and real, not a commercial package: our own kitchen and tents, small groups, and the highest roads on earth.

Motorcycle adventure touring is an inherently risky activity. By joining our Himalaya Motorcycle Expedition, you acknowledge and accept that riding through mountain roads, high passes, gravel, water crossings, changing weather conditions and high-altitude environments involves the risk of accidents, injury, altitude sickness, illness, permanent disability, or even death.
All participants are responsible for ensuring they are physically and mentally fit to take part in the expedition, including at altitudes above 5,000 m. You must disclose any pre-existing medical conditions, allergies, injuries, or medications that may affect your ability to participate safely before the tour begins.
We strongly recommend that all riders obtain comprehensive travel and adventure motorcycle insurance that covers medical treatment, high-altitude emergency evacuation, repatriation, and personal accident.
While our team carries a first-aid kit and oxygen and will make every reasonable effort to assist in the event of an emergency, we are not medical professionals. Medical facilities in remote areas of the Himalayas can be limited, and evacuation or access to advanced medical care may be delayed due to weather, terrain, or location.
By participating in our tour, you agree that you do so voluntarily and entirely at your own risk. You release and hold harmless the tour organizers, guides, staff, local partners, and affiliates from any claims, liabilities, losses, damages, costs, or expenses arising from injury, illness, medical complications, disability, or death, except where caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct as required by applicable law.
If, in the opinion of the tour leader, your physical or medical condition makes it unsafe for you or the group to continue, we reserve the right to remove you from the expedition without refund. Any medical expenses, evacuation costs, accommodation, transportation, or other related expenses arising from injury or illness remain the sole responsibility of the participant.
Himalayan weather and roads can change quickly. Passes can close for snow or landslides, and river crossings can rise during the day. The route, stays and activities shown on this website are a guide only and may change for safety, weather, road conditions, mechanical issues, government or permit restrictions, or other circumstances beyond our control. Where a change is needed, we will do our best to offer a safe and suitable alternative.
Mobile network and internet access will be limited or unavailable on many days of the expedition.
We prepare and inspect every motorcycle before the expedition, and our mechanic travels with tools and spare parts. However, in remote terrain mechanical problems, punctures and breakdowns can still happen, and repairs may take time.
Our expeditions rely on local partners, including hotels, camps, homestays and drivers. They operate independently, and facilities may vary. Participants are responsible for their own international flights, the Leh to Delhi flight, visas, passports, vaccinations, insurance and any accommodation outside the tour. We are not liable for costs arising from missed, delayed or cancelled flights or visa refusals.
We make every effort to keep the information on this website accurate, but details such as prices, dates and routes may change. The route map and altitudes are illustrative and approximate.
By booking, paying a deposit, or joining an expedition, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted this Disclaimer. Please also read our Cancellation Policy. If anything is unclear, contact us before you book.

Life is too short to spend it all behind a desk. Some roads are meant to be lived, not just travelled.
For years, I lived the life of an IT professional. But away from the office, another part of me was chasing something different — the freedom of the open road, the thrill of the unknown, and the incredible feeling of exploring the world on two wheels.
For nearly a decade, I spent my spare time hosting and guiding motorcycle expeditions with different touring companies. I gave every ride my heart and soul, and along the way, I met riders from around the world who eventually became much more than clients. Many became friends, and some returned to ride with me again and again.
Then came Covid. It reminded me of something we often forget in the rush of everyday life: we have only one life, and there is no guarantee of tomorrow.
I decided it was time to stop putting my dreams on hold. I left the corporate world behind and started my own journey under the banner of We Ride Himalayas, with a simple idea: to create motorcycle expeditions that feel real, personal, and different from the usual commercial experience.
Not just another tour. Not just another tick on a bucket list. But a journey worth remembering long after the engine stops.
We call them expeditions, not tours, for a reason. We believe the best moments often happen when you leave room for the unexpected. The itinerary gives us direction, but it doesn't have to dictate every moment. Sometimes, the unplanned turn becomes the best part of the entire journey.
We don't believe in rushing from one destination to another just to tick boxes. We believe in experiencing the road, the landscape, the people, and everything in between.
We aren't trying to create a polished, predictable holiday. We want you to experience the real character of a place — its challenging roads, remote landscapes, local cultures, unexpected encounters, and unforgettable moments.
Every expedition has its own personality. Some days will test your riding skills, some will challenge your patience, and others will leave you speechless. That's part of the adventure.
Adventure shouldn't have to come with an unreasonable price tag. We aim to keep our expeditions affordable and transparent without compromising on the essentials that matter.
Our focus is on the experience itself, not expensive branding, unnecessary merchandise, or things you don't need. We want your money to go towards the journey, the people, and the experiences that make it worthwhile.
For us, travelling is as much about people as it is about places. We work closely with local communities and involve local people wherever possible, because they are an essential part of every expedition.
From the people who prepare our meals to the local guides, drivers, mechanics, and families who welcome us along the way, we believe an adventure becomes more meaningful when everyone shares in its benefits.
I organise every expedition the way I would want to experience it myself — the kind of roads I'd love to ride, the places I'd want to discover, the freedom I'd want to feel, and the people I'd want beside me.
I'm not interested in simply getting riders from one point to another. I want them to return home with stories, friendships, new perspectives, and memories that stay with them for years.
Over the past 10 years, motorcycles have taken me across some incredible landscapes, particularly the mighty Himalayas, the vast wilderness of Mongolia, and the beautiful roads of Vietnam.
Each destination offers something different. The Himalayas challenge you with altitude and dramatic mountain passes. Mongolia takes you into a world of endless horizons, nomadic life, and wild off-road riding. Vietnam offers a beautiful blend of winding mountain roads, vibrant cultures, and unforgettable landscapes.
But no matter where we ride, the spirit remains the same: explore beyond the obvious, embrace the unexpected, and experience the world one road at a time.
Over the years, I've been fortunate to meet riders from different countries, cultures, and walks of life. We may begin a journey as strangers, but somewhere along the road, we start sharing stories, laughter, challenges, meals, and memories. By the end, it often feels like we've known each other for years.
That's the part I value most.
I love motorcycles, travelling, meeting people, discovering different cultures, and making people feel welcome. Hospitality has always been a big part of who I am. I want every rider who joins us to feel looked after, comfortable, and included — not like a customer following a schedule, but like a friend travelling with us.
At We Ride, we're not trying to become the biggest name in adventure motorcycling. We'd rather create experiences that people remember, friendships that last, and journeys that make them want to come back for more.
Because, at the end of the day, it's never just about the motorcycle or the destination. It's about everything that happens along the way.
I'm Ajay. I've traded office walls for mountain passes, familiar roads for the unknown, and routine for adventure.
If you believe the best way to explore the world is on two wheels, with an open mind and a little dust on your boots, come ride with us.
Let's ride beyond the ordinary. Let's make some real memories.— AjayFounder, We Ride
